TITLE | ARMENIACA |
Brief Information | Between 2009 and 2011, the RAA participated in the project Armeniaca (a Latin word meaning from Armenia) together with the Armenian General Benevolent Union (France), the coordinator of the project, Centro Studi e Documentazione della Cultura Armena (Italy) and Inside Europe (Belgium). Selected and supported by the European Commission in the framework of the programme Culture 2007-2013, the project aimed at collecting together and safeguarding numerous written and photographic collections relating to Armenian monuments through digitisation, to ensure the preservation of these archives which was threatened due to the lack of financial resources and expertise. It also pursued the goal of promoting these collections through listing, indexation, and finally, transmission to larger audiences in Europe and Armenia via a database and a very interactive website. The project started with an international symposium held in Paris between 24 and 26 November 2009. The website containing the database was inaugurated in Tumo Centre, Yerevan, Republic of Armenia, on 13 October 2011. |
