TITLE | BEKHENTS OR KUSANATS CONVENT |
Brief Information | On 22 April 2015, within the Film Wednesdays of Narekatsy Art Centre, Yerevan, RA, the RAA presented the documentary Bekhents or Kusanats Convent (2014) by director Tiran Karapetian (script by Samvel Karapetian). The film, which is rich in 3D reconstructions (by Pargev Frankian; reconstruction projects by architect Ashot Hakobian), reveals one of the pearls of Ani, the capital of Bagratid Kingdom of Armenia (961 to 1045), Kusanats Convent (also named Bekhents). Built on a rock on the right bank of the river Akhurian in the early 13th century by Tigran Honents, it is a perfect manifestation of contemporary building art and skills. Apart from its richly-adorned church, the convent is particularly remarkable for an overground vaulted passageway which is unmatched in Armenian architecture. |
