Brief Information | The first in the RAA 36-volume series entitled History of Armenia, the book presents the history and cultural heritage of Hayots Dzor District of Vaspurakan Province, Armenia Maior. The toponym Hayots Dzor, which is interpreted as Gorge of Hayk, or Gorge of Armenians in different sources, originates from the name of Hayk, the legendary Patriarch and founder of the Armenian nation, and the Supreme God of War for pagan Armenians. In Classical Armenian, hayk is a nominative plural form meaning Armenians (singular form: hay, i.e., Armenian), the self-designation of the Armenian people. |
